I exist!

I just received what I believe to be my first ever support request for a bit of software I've published. I feel like a real grown-up or something.

So I have it somewhere, the bit of software in question is my ion3 statusd script for MPD, statusd_mpd-socket.lua. It's a rewrite of the existing script to not crash statusd randomly when ion3 starts (the old one did so something like 3/4 of the time on my system).

(It looks like I forgot to include installation instructions in the script itself, although I think I did so in the announcement email...oops)

XP Kool-Aid

I've been hearing about this "Extreme Programming" thing for 5-6 years now, since a prior boss of mine mentioned that he'd been reading it and thought it sounded interesting. Oh, how I wish I'd borrowed the book and read it then. I didn't, and I never really looked into it, but I keep hearing vaguely positive things about it.

I finally decided to go ahead and get my hands on a copy of Extreme Programming Explained (Second Edition), and I've started reading it. All I can say is, that is some fine looking Kool-Aid they're handing out there. I'd like to try some . . . a full cup, not just a tiny sip.

TMTOWTDI

"C gives you enough rope to hang yourself with, but warns you that you probably don't want to knot it that way. Perl gives you the rope, ties a noose in the end, blindfolds you, and stands you on a rickety chair."

"Don't forget, there's more than one way to do it in Perl. Perl also hands you a loaded gun, a bottle of pills and a glass of water, and does it all on a tall bridge. Oh, and a bottle of gasoline and a lit match. (thanks, captcha, 'burned', for reminding me of that one.)"
