The world must love me. I finally get off my butt and bike down to the store to get some groceries, observing that I should definitely get more rice as it seems to be the bulk of what I'm eating these days. After grabbing about 10 lbs. of various kinds of rice, I ponder the American basmati, trying to decide if I can justify the extra expense. I decide to grab it, turn to leave, and see a huge 10 lb. sack of the stuff, imported from Pakistan, $7.99. That being about half what I was about to pay by weight, I grabbed it. What does it say about me that I'm excited about rice?
Of course, I promptly got into a "discussion" with store security as they saw me removing the old bag of rice from my bag and sticking on the shelf. They escorted me to get a cart and asked me not to keep things inside my bag while in the store. Which I promptly ignored, except to try to keep the bag looking open, but the cart had been a good idea. I think they just kept an eye on the exit to make sure I paid as I went out. Then the floor manager caught me as I went out and said I was a good customer and blahblahblah, but would I please not put things inside my own bag while inside the store. I explained the whole bicycle thing, how I need to confirm that my groceries will fit inside the bag or I have a serious problem because I can't transport them, and he agrees to accomodate me. Why was that so difficult?
Then my bag slipped sideways around the rack about every half mile on the way home. Two eggs smashed, and a good deal of annoyance. Any suggestions on ways to keep that from happening in the future? It's really annoying. The problem seems to be simply that the rack is pretty narrow, so the bag, bungee'ed down as it is, can still roll around the side.
Also need to come up with something better for a handle-bar basket than the makeshift I used today (tied my smaller knapsack to the handlebars...worked pretty well, but not quite big enough). The goal is to fit a dozen eggs and a couple loaves of bread...just light stuff that I don't want injured, I'm not trying to kill myself here.
Edit: Wow, I just added it up. I brought home 19 lbs. of rice today.
