Argh! My company, gmail, and Yahoo!Groups have conspired to embarrass me. I sent at least two emails which should have been off-list follow-ups to a mailing list instead yesterday. I blame:

  • Yahoo! for overriding Reply-To: with the list address (this has become common behavior because most mail software doesn't have appropriate controls)

  • Google for not providing appropriate controls to be able to choose whether to reply to the sender or follow-up to the list in a straightforward fashion.

  • My company, for blocking all outgoing traffic other than ports 80 and 443, preventing me connecting to my home computer via ssh and using the mailer I'm accustomed to (mutt), a situation which forces me to use the GMail webmail or be unable to check my mail at all.
