New Toy!

UPS tells me they delivered my shiny new iAudio U3 a few minutes before noon today! This means I have a new toy waiting for me at home. One I'm really excited about!

In other new toy news, I got a Motorola RAZR V3M yesterday. Yes, I now have a phone which takes pictures and plays music and videos. So silly. But it's nice and small and doesn't disturb me when it sits in my back pocket while I sit at my desk, so I like it. I just need to figure out how to transfer data to/from it so I can use a real keyboard to copy everybody's phone numbers over, and then hopefully not have to copy them manualy ever again. And then maybe to see about re-enabling features which Verizon obnoxiously disabled...

haha, Verizon is obnoxious with the Razr. But if you learn secret features to thwart them, I would love to know - I wasn't even able to get BitPim to connect to it to transfer my old pictures and midi rings onto it. :(

Yeah, Verizon is evil and turned off the ability to do that. My research suggests there are a few ways around it, most of which probably void Verizon's warranty on the phone. One of them (which doesn't) involves emailing the pictures and rings to yourself on the phone. The drawback is that receiving emails with attachments like that costs you $0.25 per email, but it does get them there safely. I'll post a link tonight after I get home if you want...I make no promises about the reliability of the information.

Does BitPim work ok for Contacts? That's what I'm more concerned about at the moment, although getting some rings I don't hate on there would be nice.

no, it won't work for contacts. But you can use iSync (if you have a Mac) and that's how I wound up getting all my contacts onto the phone. I exported from BitPim, imported into iSync, then iSynced over bluetooth. It was a pain in the arse.

The phone is capable of it, but it might require signing up for some form of data service which I don't yet have. Good idea. I should put that in the pqueue of things to look into.

Same number transported over. It's one of those "extend the contract, get another free/deeply discounted phone" things. And Mom was renewing the contract, so I was encouraged to take advantage of the deal.

Let me know how the RAZR works out. I'm considering getting a new phone--I'm currently entitled to a free one from Verizon--but I'm not sure what, as yet. Either a KRZR or an LG 8600, or a cheaper tri-band camera phone. I'm still jealously holding on to my tri-band phone for now, given the time I spend in remote areas. We'll see.
