Meh, looks like somewhere between vim, markdown, jlj, and dreamwidth, something weird happens when I try to use extended characters such as accents in a post. Something different and odd happens with the above combination and livejournal.

Dreamwidth: Post seems to post correctly, but "Edit Entry" fails with "Client error: Invalid text encoding: Cannot display this post." This prevents me from using the crosspost feature.

LiveJournal: Encoding problem where the unusual characters get misencoded so they look like garbage.

In both cases, I'm not sure if the problem is on my end or theirs, and not quite sure where to begin looking for the problem. Encoding issues suck.

Workaround, maybe?

Have you tried just encoding your extended characters—use &#num; or an equivalent encoding?
