marcmagus: Me playing cribbage in regency attire (Default)

I just spent an evening opening key seams in a pair of dress pants and sewing hook-and-loop fastener in their place. If anybody reading this is on the fence about coming to Vassar RHPS, perhaps I can tempt you with the idea of two young men ripping their pants off on stage...

I think the most amusing part was when I opened a seam, looked at the pants, and then decided I was taking the wrong approach, reassembled that seam, then opened different seams to put the tear-away into. Then discovered at the end of the whole process that I'd slipped about a half-inch when I redid the seam, and decided it hung ok and was easier to re-cuff the leg and iron the cuff in its new position than to rip the seam and re-stitch it (that was probably a mistake, but it's amusing), so I did so.

My other mistake was more irritating: I carefully prepared some fastener tape for use in one seam, and the proceeded to use it for a different seam, causing me to have to have a gap in one of my seams that shouldn't have been there. I think this is a corrolary to the principle of "measure twice, cut once". Oh well.

Made myself some of my nice tea an hour or so ago, and the caffeine hit me a lot harder than I expected. I probably won't be able to sleep for a while. That combined with the Gin Daisy I made myself because I wanted a drink has left me in a bit of an odd mood . . . not sure how to occupy myself until I wind down.

I hope the pants fit him . . ..

Given that I wasn't sleeping anyway, I got industrious, and made the second half of the curtain set for my other window. Didn't come out perfectly, but I think it's good enough.

The other amusing thing which happened today, which I forgot to mention, is that I foolishly bought stick-on, rather than sew-on, fastening tape. So, I had to go back to the fabric store to exchange it. It having been only about an hour and a half, the same two girls were working up front, and the younger one asked what the difference was, and then asked what I was doing, anyway. "Putting tear-aways into a pair of dress pants for a friend so he can do a strip show tomorrow night . . . for Rocky Horror Picture Show . . . which you're welcome to come to, if you'd like. It's at Vassar." And then I proceeded to give details, and one of them grabbed a scrap of receipt paper and scribble down the information. So some strangers might come by. I forgot to mention the fee . . . oops. As I was leaving, I was asked, "Are you going to be in it?"

...put this post on hold for about a half hour inadvertently when I got distracted and did a bunch of cleaning in my room. I wish I could sleep, but at least I'm accomplishing things that need accomplishing.
