One of my favorite professors always states near the beginning of each class he teaches that, for this class, there is one phrase which is the answer to approximately 90% of the questions he'll ask. In 224 it was, "With a register," in 334, "With a Process Control Block", and, "With a pull-down resistor" in 325. I think that perhaps the most important thing I learned from him, however, is that this principle applies rather universally.
For today's lesson, the magic phrase is, "Because we can," and the topic is Vassar College. This answers myriad questions which I have been asked recently, such as:
Many thanks to everybody who came to hear them call my name, and to everybody who's conveyed their congratulations in one way or another. I really appreciate all your support. Yes, it really happened, and it's official.
My gown, hood, and cap are now sitting in my closet. I have this temptation to get together with some friends sometime and go walk around the mall wearing the full academic garb to which we are each entitled. Why? See above.
A final tidbit, my diploma is correctly dated, "OCTAVO DIE ANTE KALENDAS JVNIAS ANNO DOMINI MMIII" You'll have to imagine dots separating each word, as I don't think I can reliably add them.

- Why do you wear hoods when you're only getting a Bachelor's?
- Why is Vassar's diploma written in Latin?
