As some of my readers know, I recently picked up a copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles, which includes the full version of Final Fantasy IV (in what I've been led to believe, and seems to me to be, un-easified form).
I just beat Wyvern (known to players of Final Fantasy II as NeoBahamut) and obtained Ragnarok (known to players of FF II as the Crystal Sword) -- on the first try! And, for that matter, without first obtaining the White Lance (or whatever it's called in this version), the Masamune, or any of the other really good stuff deeper in the Moon than the path to said sword.

Re: Nah, the sword is much easier to get
I don't think the fights in the Crystal Palace are as hard (I've fought a bunch of Behemoths by now, and I did have a run-in with an EvilMask getting to Masamune).
Plague was actually quite scary. I'm not sure if I could have beaten him without Rosa dropping a Holy and Rydia sneaking in her summoning of Bahamut at the last second (we were all on "01" when he died).
I saw no such special item, although I didn't search the game exhaustively, killing each enemy thousands of times to see if they dropped anything interesting.
