Got off my butt and cooked some food today, even if I didn't really get any of the other things I'd wanted to done.

Lunch: sushi rice with assorted fresh vegetables. Not optimal, but decidedly edible. I think this plan for summer food may actually work out. I may consider getting the tools and ingredients to do maki, though, as something felt lacking eating them chirashi-style. Oh, and I need to obtain wasabi.

Post-Lunch: Still hungry, made a salad of carrots, OJ, lemon juice, cumin, and salt & pepper. Overdid it a little with the OJ and the pepper, but it had a nice flavor and was easy enough to make even without a food processor (although that would have been nice). Will definitely have to try it again.

Post-Dinner Dessert: Tried to make Bananas Foster again (haven't in almost a year) in preparation for possibly serving them to a crowd in the near future. They taste great, but I failed to achieve flambe. I think the recipe may just not scale down to one banana in that respect. Tomorrow I'll try making two and try to figure out something to do with what I can't eat...maybe I'll try freezing it or something.

Having no clue on bananas foster, this may not apply at all, but I'll throw in $0.02 on flambe tricks anyway. My standard technique is to fill a ladle with the booze, and heat it over a gas stove until it starts to simmer, then tilt the ladle into the flame to ignite, and pour over whatever needs the torching. I've had very very little luck in ever igniting booze after it's been poured over something.
