As I was falling asleep last night, I had some thoughts regarding the other sort of Legend of Zelda challenge: minimum time to completion. I came up with a rough sketch of a path which might be worth taking, Tonight, I put swordless on hold and gave speed a try.

At 4:00 am, I pressed the start button (actually, the 'S' key). At 6:28 am, Link and Zelda stood side-by-side, each holding a triforce over their heads. I now have a reference time for myself of two and a half hours. I'm not sure if this is comparable to anybody else's times, as I don't know whether my emulator runs fast, slow, or at the nominal speed. Other benchmarks were picking up the Magical Sword on the one-hour mark, and completing the Triforce of Wisdom a minute before the two-hour mark.

It occurs to me (again) that this could make a really fun event, either stand-alone, or as part of a convention (Noncon comes to mind). Just picture a line of televisions, each connected to an 8-bit NES, each connected to a geek, all playing the Legend of Zelda and racing one another to the end. I imagine talking to the other players and hearing their status updates could make the whole thing a lot of fun (and also give good performance pressure).
