Well, I've just accepted a job offer. I'm going to be a "Programmer Analyst" working in a small office recently acquired by a large corporation. I'll be developing the software which controls a new biotech device. I haven't decided yet how much I'm willing to say here, for obvious reasons.

I estimate the commute at a bit under an hour each way by car, maybe as much as an hour and a half by train (there's a transfer involved, I haven't figured out that detail yet). I'll probably need to obtain a car to make it practical. The salary is a bit less than I'd been hoping for in light of the other businesses I'd been talking to, but those didn't turn into offers, and it's quite reasonable. I start after Thanksgiving.

Now I just need to compromise my beliefs and schedule a drug test. The kind where I prove I'm not using illegal drugs, not the kind where I prove how much I know about them. I support their right to insist on that in a contract, I just think it's none of their damn business what I do when I'm not in their office. But I can either tell them to mind their own business and start over searching, or I can submit to the test where I have nothing to hide and stop starving right away. *sigh*

Congrats!

I'd compromise and piss in the damned cup -- it's annoying, but it's better than starving (and when you get down to it, I think companies mostly due it because the federal government encourages it).
